Dr. Ruby Jessop gave me good advice on eating better. She knows my busy life makes it hard to eat well but encouraged me to take the time to think about what I’m putting into my mouth and to cook something healthy. I like her down-to-earth approach. –Richard B.

BeDiabeticWise - A Resource for Diabetics and Prediabetics Who Want to Eat a Vegetarian Diet

The goal of BeDiabeticWise is to help diabetics and prediabetics eat well. You can learn about vegetarian food choices and find healthy and tasty recipes here.  You can also schedule a face-to-face or phone session with Dr. Ruby E Jessop, PhD and LAc.  Caregivers will find this website a useful resource, too.

Why a Vegetarian Diet?

Foods rich in plant protein usually contain high amounts of nutrients, antioxidants, and phytochemicals. By eating the right combination of plant proteins, you'll be full of protective micronutrients, which can help reverse diabetes and heart disease.

For many diabetics and prediabetics, even a small amount of animal protein could raise a hormone called insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1).  Increased levels of IGF-1 are associated with aging, cancer, and heart disease.
